About

In August 2007, we published a series of articles on the direction the independence movement must take to encourage independent voters and potential candidates to take on the Washington establishment.  And in September 2007, the Executive Leadership of the Independence Party of New York, the nation’s largest independent political party, took the lead on paving the way for independents to form a new major party in America.

On September 23, 2007, hundreds of independents from all walks of life and political persuasions gathered at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains, New York and organized the Independence Party of America.

The enthusiasm and excitement was unlike any other event of its kind.  Impassioned for change, the Party took a bold stand and initiated a plan to engage Americans in a new type of political dialogue, one completely devoid of the politically divisive social issues that mask the most serious issues facing our country.

Here is the statement issued by the new Party on the eve of its formation:

It is time we send a new political prototype into the White House — a true non-partisan Independent. Someone who has led a successful life in the private or non-profit sector, away from Washington, and can drive the type of innovation needed to repair its broken systems and regain the faith of the People.

Each and every state in the nation will soon represent the Independence Party of America.

The Independence Party of America will offer a ‘third way’ to professionally manage the federal government.  As America’s largest third party organization of political independents — with more than 350,000 members in our home state alone and growing daily — we intend to bring INDEPENDENCE to the national forefront.  We intend to change the DEBATE in Washington and offer a viable alternative to the two-party duopoly.  And we hope to recruit America’s increasingly apathetic electorate with a plan and a mission to offer a REAL alternative to the major party candidates.

Millions of people across the nation have voiced their distrust of Washington’s extreme partisanship — and the growing incompetence that characterizes the federal bureaucracy.

Our great democratic system of governance has been corrupted by significant waste, fraud and mismanagement.  While the largest corporations in the nation reap billions in profits from an unprecedented surge in federal spending, average Americans struggle to pay for their basic medical expenses, housing and energy needs.

All government spending is a tax on each and every one of us, and WE, THE PEOPLE must demand appropriate accountability. We deserve a better quality lifestyle relative to our contributed tax dollars.  We deserve a better reputation on the world’s stage relative to the average American’s honest goodwill towards all people, and the sacrifices that many generations have endured to improve the lives of others around the globe.  We deserve competent, intelligent and forward-thinking leadership to lead the nation to new heights of prosperity.

As independents, we believe that America’s choice for an independent President will emerge from the grassroots with a platform to bring competent and revolutionary management principles to transforming the federal government.  The Independence Party of America will be the great big tent for all voters – left, right and center — to feel confident that we are on our way to changing course for the better.

Mission of the Independence Party of America

To be an Organization in which candidates emerge from the grassroots and work diligently to achieve “mass appeal” based on their unique leadership qualities, character and competence and not because they rose through the political ranks supported by special interest power brokers and political operatives.

To be an Organization that will drive innovation and change in Washington by encouraging a new political prototype of national leadership.  Ideal candidates will be those who have led very successful non-political careers in the private and public sectors.

To be an Organization that will drive transformation in Washington by applying sound management principles to root out waste, abuse and mismanagement at all levels and departments in the federal bureaucracy.

To provide a viable infrastructure to advance a serious, non-partisan independent leader to emerge in nationwide elections as an alternative to the republicans and democrats.

To achieve ballot status in all fifty states for the independent presidential candidate through an energized membership

To be an Organization where America’s growing population of independent-minded and politically aware people may find a home with others of similar views

To foster a non-ideological “big tent” party of ideas which serves as a think tank for the solutions to the problems we face.  We believe that positions on social issues e.g. abortion, gay rights, etc. are best determined not by a political party but by individuals. We openly welcome party members who hold varying views on social issues.

To be an Organization that will vigorously pursue an energy agenda that emphasizes independence and fosters economic prosperity for all
